Barack Obama’s election appeared to end the hold of the generation born in the 1940s on American politics. But even in 2008 there were clues that they’d be back

The boomers deserved credit for building a country that would elect a black president. But then their other great legacy – an economy built on financial hyper-creativity and easy credit – exploded, releasing political forces this generation had too long ignored. The ground was being laid for the boomers’ return.
